Kahoot-Technology in the Classroom

Kahoot is a game-based learning platform teachers can use to create exciting, interactive lessons for any subject, in any language, on any device! Kahoot is easy to set up and once you have content entered it will be there for the next time you would like to use it.  Students can use their phones or other devices.  You can also use the Google Chromebooks.

Rich Mickel uses Kahoot to review before an exam and as a way to reteach after an exam.  The individual statistics allow him to quickly assess student learning so that he can plan for differentiation as needed.  I observed Rich’s students grab their phones (a few worked in pairs since some lacked devices) and run to find seats close to the projected questions.  As the questions appeared, the class was silent, but as soon as the students had responded and the answer popped on the screen I heard, “Yes!” “I knew that one!” or “I can’t believe I got that wrong.”  Next, the student rankings by name and score appeared.  The rankings provided students with added motivation and the game became increasingly intense as it progressed.  Looking around I was impressed that 100% of students were participating and engaged.  What a great way to assess students!  Kahoot is a perfect example of ways to allow students to responsibly use their phones in class.  Below are some pictures of students reviewing the material using Kahoot in Rich Mickel’s Spanish 1 class.  Thank you, Rich, for sharing this great platform for student learning!
